What is SACE or CPTD Points? CPTD stands for Continuing Professional Teacher Development. This system recognises that teachers, like doctors, lawyers, psychologists and even accountants, need to continue their professional growth in order to serve our youth in this ever-changing world. This system is managed by SACE (the Development of the CPTD Information System (CPTD-IS), an ICT system managed by SACE that serves as the administrative and information hub of the CPTD Management System Research Study on Teacher Development Practices in 36 schools in Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, and Western Cape (undertaken by CPTD for the Task Team) The CPTD management system is compulsory for all educators in South Africa, and each teacher is expected to accumulate professional development points in a three-year cycle (SACE, ). For this reason, teachers view the CPTD management system as a coercion tool, instead of a professional developmental instrument (Johns & Sosibo, ) CPTD is managed by the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
